Alhambra Commercial Building Restoration & Seismic Strengthening |
|
|
|
Constructed during the late 19th Century, the Alhambra Building
originally served as Redwood City’s main Theater and Ballroom. Gutted by a fire in 2003, the building
was recently restored and adapted to be used as a restaurant, offices and community event space.
Crosby Group provided the structural engineering services for the rehabilitation of the building including seismic
strengthening in conformance with the State Historical Building Code. Structural work included the re-creation
of period long span wood trusses and roof framing, as well as the addition of braced frames and composite
glass fiber to strengthen the unreinforced masonry walls.
