Fire/Police Stations : LA Police Recruit Training Center Seismic Retrofit
|
|
Crosby Group was brought in as a consultant to evaluate the proposed seismic upgrade scheme for the City of Los Angeles for the 184,000 square foot
Recruit Training Center for the Los Angeles Police Department. The proposed scheme converted the existing moment frame system to a brace frame system,
a design that would have required extensive foundation structure upgrades, and would have severely impacted the continued use of the facility.
Crosby Group provided an alternate retrofit scheme which included the implementation of a visco-elastic passive damping system to reduce the impact on the building
and moment frame connections in the event of a major seismic event. In addition to the structural design, Crosby Group provided consulting and education
services to the City on the benefits of passive damping. The proposed passive damper alternate allowed the City to upgrade the structure in a cost-effective
manner and with minimal impact to the daily use of the building.
