Higher Education : College of Alameda - Building A Modernization & Seismic Retrofit
|
|
Crosby Group provided structural engineering design services for the modernization
and renovation of Building A on this community college campus. The building is a two-story, 28,790 SF concrete
structure constructed around 1968 and therefore it lacked the seismic performance level present in modern buildings.
The existing building was completely modernized and seismically retrofitted together with ADA updates. The seismic
design included adding new concrete shear walls, a new elevator shaft and stairways together with major redesign
and improvements of the foundation system. That included elaborate interaction between the existing pile system and
the new foundation design using micro-piles.
