Crosby Group provided structural design for this large expansion to the City’s current maintenance facility. This project consisted of full design services for two new buildings totaling 67,000 square feet, the renovation of one existing 26,000 square foot building and the design of several structures for covered parking. Pre-engineered metal buildings were ultimately used for the two main building structures but were structurally modified to provide better anticipated seismic performance and for increased durability.

The initial geotechnical report suggested that the site be over-excavated to a depth of 5 to 10 feet to mitigate potential soft soils. However, a portion of the site was noted to have oil, gas and other deleterious material which required abatement and added greater expense. The Crosby Group commissioned a new geotechnical investigation and ultimately designed the buildings to rest on thickened mat foundations, saving both time and budget.

Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) were also used within the building interiors to reinforce new openings in the exterior concrete walls without the use temporary shoring or new pilasters.
