Office Complexes/High Tech : Vantage V1 Data Center Retrofit & Renovation
|
|
Crosby Group was brought on to the design team by Hensel Phelps on this design-build project to provide a
more cost-effective design solution for the renovation of an existing 2-story, 237,000sf precast tilt-up semiconductor manufacturing building
into a new high-efficiency data center for Vantage Data Centers. The original renovation and retrofit design included the removal of the entire
roof, raising of the exterior concrete walls and placing a new roof at a higher elevation. This solution was both costly and risky, and put the
project substantially over-schedule. Crosby Group reassessed the options available to meet the needs of the client while also minimizing impacts
to the existing facility to keep it both on time and on budget.
Our solution maintained the exterior concrete walls at their existing elevation and pitched the roof to achieve the interior heights where needed.
The voluntary seismic upgrade of this existing structure to an essential facility included adding new concrete shearwalls and foundations, new steel
perimeter collectors, pressure grouting the underlying soil, and strengthening both the collector connections with fiber reinforced polymers (FRP)
and the precast girders with FRP to support a 150psf live load.
